John Joseph Fischer, 70, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 30th in Malden, MA. Jay was a devoted and loving family man and is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Catherine, his son, Jason and daughter, Rebecca, (both of Malden, MA) as well as a large extended family: Ginny & Michael O'Neill of Marlborough, Cissy & John D'Ovidio of Somerville, Terry Collins of Waltham and Beth & Mark Mahoney of Oakham, along with many nieces and nephews. He was especially close to Owen, Riley, Kelan & Aidan - Uncle Jay and an honorary Grandfather. He also had two best friends, John Boudreau of Danvers and Dennis Lancaster of Malden.

Son of the late Elmer & Shirley (Parsons) Fischer, he was born and raised in Brighton, MA with his siblings - brother Steven (deceased) and sisters Carol Normant of Burlington and Jeanne McMahon of Marlborough. A resident of Malden for over 30 years, he enjoyed playing poker, betting the races, watching sports and enjoying life alongside his beloved family. When he was around, you could always feel his kind presence - a happy, fun-loving person who wanted to make you smile. He made sure he played his lottery every week and scratched the tickets. A hard worker and an amazing provider for his family, Jay worked since he was 14-years-old until his retirement earlier this year. He is deeply loved and missed. We know he is dancing in heaven and smiling down on all of us.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Association in Jay's honor.

My Dad was my hero, the man I looked up to and knew that as long as he was around we would all be okay. He was the person that when he walked into the room, people would flock to him. To get a big bear hug and once that happened things were right in the world. I have learned after his passing how other's have thought of him. They loved being able to just sit and chat with him, he would always ask how they were and really want to know and listen. He had an infectious laugh and made you feel loved, special and cared for. You never had to worry about approaching him to get a hug, you just knew that he would welcome you. He taught me so much especially near the end of his life about what I need to do and prepare for moving forward if something should ever happen to him. How I would care for my ailing mother and take care of the house and finances. He only lived for 70 years and I only got him for 47 years of my life. To me that was not long enough. He was so much more than just my Dad. He was my best friend, gambling buddy, confidante, hero, adviser about life and so much more. He was and will always be the most amazing Dad to me. His body was tired long before and he just wasn't ready to leave us but the heart got too tired and the Angels wanted him too much. I love you to Heaven and back a million/trillion times Daddy, Cadillac Jack, Papasan, Harvey, Dad and Jay. I feel your presence and know you are still here with me and Jason. That is what I hold onto the most. You never left us and never will.
